Banda, a district of Uttar Pradesh is located in the easternmost district of Bundelkhand. Banda district forms a part of Chitrakoot Division. The district is bounded on the north by district of Fatehpur, on the east by the district of Chitrakut, on the west by the district of Hamirpur and Mahoba and on the south by Satna, Panna districts of Madhya Pradesh. The district derives its name from the headquarters town, Banda, which is said to have been derived from Bamdeo, a sage mentioned in Hindu mythology as an incarnation of Lord Rama. Bamdeo is said to have had his hermitage at the foot of a hill Bambeshwar near Khutla in Banda.
